China and Fiji Exchange Congratulatory Messages on the 35th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao exchanges congratulatory messages with Fiji's Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama on 2 Nov 2010 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of the Fiji Islands.

In his message, Premier Wen said, since the diplomatic ties were established, we have witnessed the steady development of bilateral relations, expanding exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The bilateral relations have not only brought tangible benefits to both countries and peoples, but also contributed to peace, stability and development in the region. He stressed that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with Fiji, and is willing to work together with Fiji on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, to achieve new and greater progress for China-Fiji relations on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

Prime Minister Bainimarama in his message said that the cultural bond between our two peoples goes well beyond the last 35 years, the strong bond and cordial state currently witnessed in our bilateral relation is the testimony to the respect and growing understanding we have developed. Our level of development has been assisted in so many ways through the various assistances provided by China and for which we are most grateful. The growth in our bilateral relations has indeed reached new levels of understanding and maturity. Fiji continues to look to China as an important bilateral and development partner. Given China's growing global economic and political influence, the 35 years old diplomatic relationship Fiji enjoys with China presents a unique position to developing the closest degree of cooperation and friendship.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged congratulatory messages with his Fiji counterpart Ratu Inoke Kubuabola to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations.
