Chinese Embassy hosted Reception to Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between China and Fiji

The Chinese Embassy in Fiji hosted a reception in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji on 3 November 2010. Over 200 guests including His Excellency President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, His Honorable Prime Minister Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, Cabinet Ministers, members of Diplomatic Corps, representatives from Chinese companies and local Chinese communities were invited to the event.

The Chinese Ambassador Dr. Han Zhiqiang warmly congratulated the 35th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Fiji. He said that the signing of the agreement to establish diplomatic relations between China and Fiji on November 5th, 1975 started a new era for the China-Fiji relations. During the past 35 years, China and Fiji have maintained and developed long-standing cooperative and friendly relations,which have not only brought benefits to our two countries and peoples, but also contributed to peace, development and stability of the region. Amb. Han congratulated Fiji on its achievements in reform and development as well as its successful participation in the Shanghai World Expo.

Stressing that China will further strengthen friendship and cooperation with Fiji, and make joint contribution to building a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity. Amb. Han also expressed his special gratitude to President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, who initiated the historic process of establishing diplomatic relations between China and Fiji.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation and International Cooperation of Fiji,Ratu Inoke Kubuamola made responding remarks, on behalf of the Fiji Government. He said that Fiji is the very first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with China. The Government and people of Fiji are very satisfied with the 35-year all-weather genuine friendship that exists between Fiji and China. Today, the partnership is flourishing, and ties between Fiji and China have been greatly accelerated with the Look North Policy which recognizes China's preeminent position in the world. China has not only become an important trade and investment partner but also has been a true friend to Fiji during the time of need. Fiji regards relationship with China as one of her most important. The Government and People of Fiji wish to reaffirm their commitment to the One China Policy on which the bilateral relationship is founded, and spare no effort in strengthening and deepening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that bind the two peoples together.
