Madam Jenny Seeto, President of the Chinese Association of Fiji and

Mr. Dixon Seeto,

Members of the Board of Directors of Yat Sen School,

The Chinese Community,

Teachers and Students,

Bula good morning!

I have the pleasure to join all of you on this joyous occasion to celebrate the 2013 Mid-autumn festival and the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Mid-autumn festival is one of the most celebrated traditional festivals in China. On the day of the 15th August of Chinese lunar calendar, people will join their families to eat moon cakes and have a sighting of the silver full moon. It is a day of paying respect to the elderly people and showing love to the young children. It is a day of strengthening family bond and remembering cultural roots. Mid-autumn festival symbolizes love, respect, cohesion and harmony. These are the fundamental teachings in Chinese culture. Each time when we celebrate these traditional festivals, we are constantly reminded of those traditional cultural values and spirit. This is therefore the true meaning of all celebrations.

Today we are here to also celebrate the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Nowadays the people of China are marching on the road of achieving the Chinese Dream. What is Chinese Dream? The Chinese Dream is a dream for prosperity of the country, rejuvenation of the nation and happiness of the people. We are determined to realize the Chinese Dream through peaceful development and mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries.

Students of the Yat Sen School,

Young and aiming high, you also have your own dreams. But only by hard studying and strong physical building can you realize your dreams. So, Boys and Girls, keep going and carry on with your cultural roots.

Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Before I conclude, I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Chinese Association of Fiji and the members of the Board of Directors of Yat Sen School for their untiring effort in promoting China-Fiji friendship and Chinese culture in Fiji. I thank you, too for holding today's celebration!
