On October 14, Chinese Embassy in Suva donated 60 sets of new school uniforms and an additional $10,000 funding to the Gospel School for the Deaf.

Director of the Chinese Embassy's political division Mr. Li Jiabing said it was a pleasure to assist students by providing them something that they really need. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji. He stressed that China and Fiji are both developing countries and share a lot in common. China and Fiji have a profound economic and social relationship and we would like to do something for the well-being of the people.

School Director Russell Neate said the assistance from the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese government is very helpful to the families and the school. The new supply of school uniforms was a much needed help to students and the financial assistance was an unexpected surprise.

The school has a roll of 60 students from Fiji, Kiribati, Vanuatu and other Pacific countries. Most students live in the school's hostel and 8 teachers are their guardians.
